SEO for electricians: how do you get found by more local customers?

In short

How electricians get found on Google: what the map results weigh, a page for every job and town, registration on show and steady reviews.

SEO gets an electrician found in Google's free results and map listings when local customers search for the work they do. It comes down to four things: a complete Google Business Profile, a page for every job and town you cover, a steady flow of genuine reviews, and trust signals such as your registration on show. Get those right and you compete for the searches that turn into jobs without paying for every click.

Here's how each of those works for an electrical business, and where to start.

How do people search for an electrician?

In two very different ways. When the power trips and won't reset, a customer needs someone local who'll answer the phone. They search on their mobile, look at the map results and ring one of the first electricians they see. For that customer, your Google Business Profile does the selling, because the map listing is the first thing they see.

Planned work is different. A homeowner booking a rewire, a driver getting an EV charger fitted, a landlord with an EICR due: each of these is a considered spend. They search for the specific job, open several websites, read reviews and check who's registered before they ask for a quote. That customer is won by your website, and specifically by a page about the job they want done.

Good SEO for electricians covers both. Your profile wins the urgent calls, and your job pages win the bigger planned work.

What decides where you appear in Google's map results?

Google's Business Profile help page Tips to improve your local ranking on Google, checked in October 2026, names three factors: relevance, distance and prominence. We've covered all three in our guide to getting into Google's map results, so here's what they mean for an electrician.

Distance is set by where your customer is, so it's out of your hands. Relevance is the factor you control most directly: a profile that says "electrician" and nothing more gives Google little to match against a search for an EV charger installer or an EICR. Prominence is how well known you are, and Google says it draws on your reviews and the websites that link to you. The same page states that "There's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google," so anyone promising you a top spot in the map is promising something Google rules out.

What should an electrician's Google Business Profile include?

Everything a customer needs to decide to ring you. Choose the category that best describes your core work, list each service you offer, set the areas you cover and keep your opening hours accurate, including special hours over bank holidays. If you take emergency call-outs, make that clear, and if you don't, say what hours you answer.

Add photos of your own finished jobs: a neat consumer unit, a charger on a driveway, a commercial fit-out. They show the standard you work to and give a stranger a reason to trust you. Keep your business name, address and phone number identical on your profile, your website and every directory you're listed in, so Google and your customers see the same facts everywhere.

Why does each electrical job need its own page?

Because relevance works on your website too. Someone searching for a consumer unit upgrade wants to land on a page about consumer units, not a list of every job you've ever done. Rewires, EV chargers, EICRs and commercial work are five different searches from five different customers, and one general page has to compromise on all of them.

A job page earns its place by answering the questions that customer has before they ring: what the work involves, how long it takes, what certificate they get at the end and which towns you cover. Build one for every job you want more of, then one for each town you want work in. That's how our SEO for electricians is put together. If you're starting from scratch, our web design for electricians builds those pages from day one, and our guide to what a tradesperson's website should include covers the rest of the site.

How do registration schemes help you get chosen?

They answer the trust question before it's asked. Landlords show why. Under the regulations explained in the government's guidance on electrical safety standards in the private and social rented sectors, published in November 2025, every landlord in England needs a qualified person to inspect and test their electrical installations at least every 5 years. When it comes to choosing who, that guidance sends landlords to the Registered Competent Person Electrical register and to Electrical Safety First's tool for finding a registered electrician.

So if you're registered with a competent person scheme, say so on every job page and on your landlord page, next to your phone number and quote form. A landlord or homeowner checking you out sees straight away that you're on the registers they've been told to look at.

How do reviews help an electrician rank?

They feed prominence directly. Google's local ranking page says "More reviews and positive ratings can help your business's local ranking," and that replying to reviews shows customers you value their feedback.

Make asking for a review part of finishing every job, while the customer is pleased and the work is fresh in their mind. Reply to each one, good or bad, in a line or two. Then use the best reviews on your website, placing a review about a rewire on your rewiring page, where the next rewire customer will read it.

Where does Google Ads fit alongside SEO?

SEO builds month by month, so it pays to bring in calls while it grows. Our Google Ads for electricians go live in 5 days on average and show you for the jobs you choose, while your profile and pages climb the free results. Once your SEO is ranking for a job, you can spend less on ads for it and more on the work you still need.

What does DLR Media do for electricians?

The website side of this guide, done for you and kept up to date. We build the job and town pages, show your registration where customers look for it and keep your business details consistent across your site and listings. Then we keep adding pages every day, with GEO running alongside so AI tools such as ChatGPT and Gemini have accurate facts about the work you do and where you do it.

That work runs inside the DLR Growth Engine, which also covers your Google Ads and Meta Ads and includes a free custom website worth £4,500, yours once the 12-month term is complete. Not ready to hand it over? Book a standalone Google Business Profile or local SEO audit from our audits page and see where you stand first.

Frequently asked questions

How much does SEO cost for an electrician?

With us, it's included in the Growth Engine for £1,499 a month + VAT, which also runs your ads and gives you a free custom website. A one-off audit is priced on its scope, and we confirm that price before any work starts.

How long does SEO take for an electrician?

That comes down to your competition for each job, how much your site and profile need fixing and how many towns you're targeting. The more electricians already ranking well for a job in your area, the longer the climb, which is why Google Ads earn their place in the early months.

Do reviews help an electrician rank on Google?

Yes. Reviews count towards prominence, one of Google's three local ranking factors, and replying to each one shows the next customer how you treat people.

Should I have a separate page for EV charger installs?

Yes, if you want more of that work. A page about EV charger installs is a far better match for that search than a general services page, and it gives the customer the detail they need to book.
