An eight-week EMPOWER: Digital programme for Business Gateway Edinburgh, commissioned by Elevator, combining workshops with one-to-one consultancy for SMEs.

The challenge

DLR Media was commissioned by Elevator to design and deliver the EMPOWER: Digital programme on behalf of Business Gateway Edinburgh.

The programme was developed to address a recognised digital skills gap among SMEs and to equip participants with practical, future-focused capabilities.

What we did

Delivered over eight weeks in person, the programme combined structured workshops with personalised one-to-one consultancy. Eleven participants from a diverse range of sectors took part, with an average weekly attendance of 8.5 and strong engagement throughout. Nine participants also accessed tailored one-to-one support sessions.

The programme covered key areas including paid advertising, LinkedIn lead generation, social media content creation, TikTok strategy, CRM systems, SEO and brand development. A core focus was placed on practical implementation, ensuring that participants were not only learning concepts but actively applying them within their own businesses during the sessions.

The results

  • Increased digital confidence across all participants
  • Immediate application of learning, including launching advertising campaigns and improving content strategies
  • Improved understanding of customer journeys, lead generation processes and CRM usage
  • Strong peer-to-peer collaboration and continued networking beyond the programme

Participant feedback highlighted the effectiveness of the delivery approach, with comments such as “excellent and informative”, “good balance of theory and practical” and “explained in layman’s terms”.

The programme successfully demonstrated the value of combining group-based learning with tailored one-to-one support, resulting in both capability development and tangible business improvements.
