The Challenge
Social media and digital creation now form one of the fastest-growing global industries, worth billions of pounds and influencing how businesses in every sector connect with their customers. Skills in storytelling, filming, and online engagement are no longer just for professional influencers - they are valued in marketing, design, technology, engineering, hospitality, and entrepreneurship.
This one-day programme helped young people explore this digital economy responsibly and safely. It showed them how to turn personal interests - from fixing a car or baking to playing chess or travelling - into powerful examples of creativity and problem-solving that might not appear on a traditional CV. Aligned with Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence, the course supported wellbeing, safe online practice, creativity, and employability.
Across the sessions, pupils explored the creator economy, identified and developed their own niche, planned content ideas, and had the opportunity to film and edit their own content - while also building an understanding of online safety, including how to identify scams, and recognise red flags.
It was great to see so many pupils thinking creatively and recognising how digital skills and content creation can support a wide range of future career paths.
Thank you to Kirsten Cameron from Aquarius Creative for sharing real-world insights from an influencer management perspective.
A really inspiring couple of days!
