How much does Google Ads cost in Australia?

How much does Google Ads cost in Australia?

In short

Google Ads in Australia costs the budget you set, plus 10% GST and any management fee. Here's how click prices work and what to budget.

Google Ads in Australia costs the budget you choose to spend with Google, plus a management fee if someone runs your campaigns for you. Google has no set price for an ad: you pay for clicks, and 10% GST applies to what Google charges you. If we manage your account, our fee starts from A$1,250 a month, and your ad spend stays separate.

That's the short answer. The rest of this guide explains what sets the price of each click, how GST fits in, how to choose a starting budget and what management costs, so you can put real numbers against your own business.

How does Google work out what you pay for each click?

Every time someone searches, Google runs an auction for the ad spaces on that page. You set a maximum cost-per-click bid, which is the most you're prepared to pay, but that isn't automatically what you're charged. Google's 2026 Ads Help definition of actual cost-per-click puts it simply: "Your actual cost-per-click (actual CPC) is the final amount you're charged for a click." The same page explains that you pay only what's needed to clear Google's Ad Rank thresholds and beat the Ad Rank of the advertiser immediately below you.

Ad Rank isn't only about money. Google combines your bid with the quality of your ad at the moment of the auction, including expected clickthrough rate, ad relevance and landing page experience. Google's 2026 Ads Help guidance on Ad Rank says you "can still win a higher position at a lower price by using highly relevant keywords and ads". That's where good management earns its fee. Every ad written to match the search behind it, and every landing page that answers the question, lets the same budget buy more visits from people ready to buy.

Why do clicks cost more in some Australian markets than others?

The price of a click is set by the businesses bidding against you, so it rises with competition. And the field keeps growing. The ABS counted 2,814,778 actively trading businesses at 30 June 2026 in its 2026 Counts of Australian Businesses, with 996,203 of them employing staff. Over 2025-26, the total rose by 85,130.

Not every one of those businesses advertises on Google, but any business in your trade and your area can bid on the searches you want. A business in a crowded trade in a capital city faces more bidders than a specialist supplier with a handful of competitors nationwide, and it pays for that in its cost per click. That's why we don't quote you a national average. What you'll pay depends on your trade, the areas you cover, the searches you choose and how many others are bidding on them.

Do you pay GST on Google Ads in Australia?

Yes. Google's 2026 Ads Help page on taxes in your country states: "All Google Ads sales in Australia will be subject to a goods and services tax (GST) of 10%." The same page says taxes are charged at the time of payment, and that the local tax invoices Google provides are legally valid and accepted by your local tax authorities.

Build that 10% into your plan from the first day, so the amount you set aside for advertising covers the GST on Google's charges as well as the clicks themselves. Whether you can claim it back depends on your own tax position. Google says it can't advise on tax matters, and neither can we, so check with your accountant. Your ad spend is billed by Google directly, and our management fee comes to you from us as a separate bill.

How much should a small business budget for Google Ads?

Google leaves the figure to you, so the real question is what your budget needs to achieve. The answer comes from three numbers: what a new customer is worth to you, how many enquiries it takes to win one, and what a click costs on the searches that matter to you. The first two come from your own records. The third is what our free audit shows you, before you spend anything.

Put those together and the budget stops being a guess. If a single job is worth thousands of dollars, you can afford to pay more for each enquiry than a business selling a low-priced item. If clicks in your area are expensive, a narrow campaign aimed at the searches with the strongest buying intent gets more from the same money than a broad one. Begin with a budget you can hold steady long enough to see results, prove which searches bring in work, then shift more of your budget onto them.

What does Google Ads management cost in Australia?

What you're paying an agency for is judgement and time: deciding which searches deserve your money, writing ads that match them, blocking the searches that will never buy and adjusting bids every day as the results come in. Our Google Ads management for Australian businesses comes in three plans:

  • Starter, A$1,250 a month
  • Growth, A$2,000 a month
  • Scale, A$3,500 a month, with dedicated landing page builds included

Every plan runs on a 6-month minimum term, which gives us time to build, test and refine your campaigns. None of your ad spend passes through us. A free audit comes first, campaigns launch in 5 days on average, and we set up call and form conversion tracking so you can see which searches bring you enquiries.

When you compare quotes, look past the headline fee. Ask who owns the ad account, whether your spend passes through the agency, how long you're tied in and what you'll see in your reports each month. A fee is only good value when the rest of the arrangement is clear.

Can a UK agency run Google Ads for an Australian business?

Yes. We're remote-first, with no Australian office, and our team has worked with clients across 15 markets. We plan, report and talk through results by video call and email, and we set your campaigns to your local time zone so your ads show while your customers are awake and searching.

Our proof comes from UK clients. For Caltech Lifts, a UK stairlift company, our Google Ads work produced 35 qualified leads and 15 completed sales. What we achieve for you rests on your market, your offer and your budget, so we won't promise numbers before we've seen your account.

Should Google Ads be your only paid channel?

Google Ads reaches people who are already searching for what you sell, which makes it a fast route to enquiries. It isn't the only route. Meta ads put you in front of people on Facebook and Instagram before they start searching, and SEO grows the unpaid traffic that keeps arriving without a cost per click. Paid search gets the phone ringing now, while SEO cuts how much you lean on paid clicks later.
