Move first while AI Mode is new
Google launched AI Overviews and AI Mode in Google Search in France on 22 July 2026, on mobile, desktop and the Google app, more than two years after the global rollout began in May 2024. Google also says that, on average, a search in AI Mode is three times longer than a traditional search.
A longer question has room for the service, the region and the budget, and AI Mode answers it with links to the sites it draws on. Every business in France has had AI Mode for the same few months. Alongside the launch, Google added a Search Console control, available in France, that lets site owners decide whether their site appears in these AI features. Google says the control isn't used as a ranking signal for its search results.
