In short
Moving from Wix or Squarespace to Shopify: products, customers, orders, reviews, redirects and your domain, step by step, with Shopify's own guidance.
You move from Wix or Squarespace to Shopify in four stages: export your products and customers, reshape them to fit Shopify's import files, set up redirects for every old page, then move your domain last. Products and customers move across through CSV imports. Reviews and order history need extra steps, because Shopify says reviews can't be exported or migrated from either platform, and it points you to third-party apps for past orders.
Here's what each stage involves, where a Wix move and a Squarespace move differ, and what to check before you switch.
When is it time to leave Wix or Squarespace?
When your shop needs proper ecommerce rather than a website builder. A builder gets a business online quickly. The pressure comes later, as the catalogue grows, orders pick up and the shop needs to connect to the systems behind it.
Look at what's slowing you down. If you're managing stock in one place and orders in another, keying data in by hand, working round product options, or going without an integration your business needs, the shop has outgrown its platform. Shopify is built around selling, with the Shopify App Store for the jobs your shop needs doing, and custom apps where no off-the-shelf app fits.
The move is also the moment to fix what's held sales back. You're rebuilding the store either way, so the product pages, navigation and checkout journey can be designed around how your customers buy, rather than copied across as they are.
What can you bring across from Wix or Squarespace?
Shopify's migration guides for both platforms list the same four types of data: products, customers, historical orders and reviews. They don't all move the same way.
Products are the core of the move. On both platforms you export a product CSV file, edit it to match Shopify's product template, then import it through the Shopify admin. Customers follow the same route, with their own export and their own template. Order history and reviews are where the extra work sits, and we come to those below.
Wix stores have one more option. Shopify's guide to migrating from Wix, checked in October 2026, describes a Store Migration app that imports products and customers from Wix. The same guide says the app "is in early access, and is available only for certain stores and on desktop devices." It also sets out two limits to check before you rely on it: prices by location aren't supported, so each product takes its highest price, and products with more than 3 options won't have their options imported.
How do you move your products without losing detail?
By treating the CSV file as a job in its own right, not a quick export and upload. Wix and Squarespace label their data differently from Shopify, so each column has to be matched to its Shopify equivalent before you import.
The detail matters. Shopify's guides tell you to convert product weights to grams before importing: from kilograms on Wix, multiplying by 1,000, and from pounds on Squarespace, multiplying by 453.6. If your delivery charges are based on weight, a wrong figure means wrong charges at checkout. Both guides also tell you to untick the option to publish new products to all sales channels during import, so nothing goes live before you've checked it.
Then check every product. Shopify's guides list the common import errors to look for: products that imported but didn't publish, details missing from imported products, and variants that failed to import. Give variants the closest check of all, because a product with the wrong options isn't a product anyone can buy.
What happens to customers, orders and reviews?
Customers come across through a CSV import, but the file has to be right first. Shopify's guide to migrating from Squarespace, checked in October 2026, is direct about it: "You can't import a customer CSV that doesn't match the Shopify headings." The guide confirms there's no data mapping support for customer imports, so the headings are edited by hand before you upload.
For past orders, both guides point to third-party migration apps from the Shopify App Store. Bring it with you: your customer service team needs it the first time someone asks about an order they placed before the move.
Reviews need a plan of their own. Shopify's guides say you can't export or migrate reviews from either Wix or Squarespace, so they're added to a reviews app on Shopify, each one attached to the right product. Shoppers read reviews before they buy, so get this done before launch, not after it.
How do you keep your Google rankings through the move?
With redirects, set up before the domain moves. Shopify's guides for both platforms flag that your page addresses can change on Shopify, and advise setting up URL redirects before you transfer your domain. That way anyone following an old link, Google included, lands on the right new page instead of an error.
Shopify's help page on URL redirects, checked in October 2026, explains that you can add redirects one at a time or import them in bulk from a CSV file, with up to 100,000 allowed outside the Plus plan. It also says "You can redirect only from broken URLs", so the old page has to be gone before its redirect will work.
Point every old address at its nearest match on the new store, so a Wix product page goes to the same Shopify product and a Squarespace category goes to the collection that replaces it. Pointing everything at the home page throws away the rankings each page has earned. For titles, descriptions, structured data and the checks to run after launch, our guide to moving from WooCommerce to Shopify without losing SEO applies just as well to a Wix or Squarespace move.
When should the domain move?
Last. Both Shopify guides say to disconnect your domain from Wix or Squarespace before connecting it to Shopify, and warn that skipping this step can cause errors with SSL certificates. That's the certificate that tells a shopper's browser your site is secure, and a security warning is the last thing you want customers to see on launch day.
Before the domain moves, set up the rest of the store: theme, shipping rates and zones, taxes, payment provider and staff accounts. Then place test orders and check the order confirmation emails. Once the domain switches, test your old URLs again, starting with the pages that bring in the most traffic and sales.
What does a Wix or Squarespace to Shopify move cost with us?
Platform migration is included in our Shopify Growth build at £25,000 + VAT, together with SEO migration planning, product feed set-up and post-launch optimisation. Our Shopify Launch build, at £10,000 + VAT, is for new ecommerce businesses and straightforward projects, so a migration sits in Growth rather than Launch. For complex, high-volume or international stores, Shopify Plus builds start from £50,000 + VAT and Plus Migration from £65,000 + VAT. Every build has a fixed scope and price, agreed with you after discovery.
You work with a named project lead and the same designers and developers from audit to launch, in a private Slack channel, backed by 7 years in commerce. For the wider costs of the move, including Shopify's own monthly plans, read how much it costs to move your online shop to Shopify.
Frequently asked questions
Can I move my Wix or Squarespace reviews to Shopify?
Not directly. Shopify's guides say reviews can't be exported or migrated from either platform, so they're added to a reviews app on Shopify and matched to the right products.
Will my customers come across?
Yes. Customers are exported from Wix or Squarespace and imported into Shopify through a CSV file that matches Shopify's customer headings exactly.
Can I keep my domain name?
Yes. You connect or transfer your existing domain to Shopify, after disconnecting it from Wix or Squarespace and setting up your redirects.
How long does the move take?
That's set by the size of your catalogue, how much data moves and what the store connects to. We fix the timeline with you after discovery, so you know your launch date before the build starts.
