How much does Google Shopping management cost for a UK shop?

How much does Google Shopping management cost for a UK shop?

In short

What Google Shopping costs a UK shop: clicks paid to Google, a free Merchant Center, feed work and management fees, and how we price it.

Google Shopping management costs a UK shop three things: the clicks you pay Google for, the work that keeps your product feed accurate, and a fee for whoever runs the campaigns. Merchant Center itself is free, and so are Google's free product listings. We don't price Shopping on its own. It's part of our Growth Marketing Packages, from £3,000 a month + VAT.

Below, we break down each of those costs, what to compare when quotes land on your desk, and how to judge whether the total is worth it for your shop.

Why are UK shops paying for Google Shopping at all?

Because a large share of your customers' spending now happens online. The Office for National Statistics' retail sales bulletin for September 2026, published on 23 October 2026, puts the proportion of sales made online at 28.8%, down slightly from 28.9% in August. That's more than a quarter of retail sales in Great Britain.

Shopping ads put your product in front of people at the moment they search for it, with the product itself as the ad rather than a line of text. That makes them a direct route from a search to a sale. It also makes them easy to overspend on, so understand each cost before you set a budget.

What do you pay Google for Shopping ads?

You pay for clicks, not for being seen. Google's help page About Shopping ads, checked in October 2026, says: "You're charged using cost-per-click (CPC)." The same page explains that you're charged only when someone clicks an ad that takes them to the landing page on your website.

So your product can show hundreds of times at no cost, and the bill only starts when a shopper clicks through. The price of each click is set in Google's ad auction, and our guide to what Google Ads costs a UK small business explains how that auction and Google's billing work.

That click cost is your ad spend, and with us it's paid directly to Google. You own the account, you see every penny, and our fee is a separate line.

Does Google Merchant Center cost anything?

No. Google's help page Get started with Merchant Center, checked in October 2026, calls it "a free tool that helps millions of shoppers on Google discover, explore, and buy your products." The same page says your products can appear across Google Search, Maps, YouTube and more, for free.

Those free listings run alongside your paid Shopping ads, from the same product data in Merchant Center. Every hour you put into your feed improves both, so the only cost of that extra exposure is the feed work itself.

What does feed work cost you?

Time, and it's the cost that's easiest to underestimate. Your Merchant Center feed supplies what a shopper sees in a Shopping ad, including the product title, image and price. Google also uses that same data, not keywords, to decide which searches your products show for. A weak feed means weak ads, however much you bid.

There's a one-off job at the start: connecting your store to Merchant Center, getting every product approved, fixing anything Merchant Center flags, and rewriting product titles so they lead with the words shoppers search for. Then the work carries on. Prices change, products sell out, promotions start and end, and each change has to reach the feed accurately.

Someone has to do that work, and it's you, your developer or your agency. When you compare quotes, ask who owns the feed, because a management fee that leaves the feed to you buys less than one that includes it. Our guide to what Google Shopping campaign management includes goes through the feed and campaign work in detail.

How are Google Shopping management fees set?

Quotes for Shopping management use three main fee models, and each one rewards something different:

  • A fixed monthly fee. Predictable, and it doesn't rise when your ad spend does. On its own, it says nothing about results.
  • A percentage of ad spend. The fee grows as you spend more, whether or not sales grow with it.
  • A percentage of revenue. The fee follows your sales, so it only works once you and the agency trust the same numbers.

Check for a set-up fee as well, and what it pays for. Then look past the headline figure to what sits behind it: how often your account is checked, whether feed work is included, and whether Shopping runs on its own or alongside the email, retargeting and store work that turns clicks into orders.

How do you know if Shopping is paying for itself?

Add up everything it costs, then set that against the profit it brings in, not the revenue. Your total is ad spend, plus the management fee, plus the time that goes into the feed. Compare it with the gross profit on the orders your Shopping campaigns win.

Return on ad spend, or ROAS, only tells you part of that, because the ROAS a product needs to break even comes from its margin. Our guide to Google Shopping campaign management works through the break-even arithmetic. An agency that reports revenue without reference to your margins is telling you half the story.

Why is Shopping part of a package with us?

A Shopping click is only the first step towards a sale. Your store has to convert it, and the shoppers who leave without buying need bringing back through retargeting and email. Split those jobs between different people with different targets, and nobody owns the sale.

So we run Shopping inside our ecommerce Growth Marketing Packages, with one team working to the same revenue and ROAS targets across every channel:

  • Growth: up to £50,000 average monthly online revenue, £3,000 a month + VAT.
  • Scale: £50,000 to £150,000 in monthly online revenue, £5,000 a month + VAT.
  • Accelerate: £150,000 to £500,000 in monthly online revenue, £10,000 a month + VAT.

Each package covers Google Ads and Meta Ads management, Klaviyo email and SMS, SEO and GEO foundations, site optimisation, weekly reporting and a dedicated Growth Manager, and our team checks your accounts every working day. Ad spend goes straight to the platforms. A one-off set-up and onboarding fee equals one month of your package, and after your first three months with us, larger stores can switch to a percentage-of-revenue model.

The DLR Growth Guarantee comes with every package. Before we start, we agree growth targets with you. Miss them for a review period and our fee for that period is waived. The guarantee applies to our monthly fee only, so ad spend, apps and the set-up fee sit outside it.

Frequently asked questions

Is Google Merchant Center free?

Yes. Google describes Merchant Center as a free tool, and showing your products in Google's free listings costs nothing. You pay only for Shopping ads, and only when someone clicks.

Do I pay Google when my product is shown but not clicked?

No. Shopping ads are charged per click, so an impression on its own costs you nothing.

What is the set-up fee for?

It's a one-off set-up and onboarding fee, equal to one month of your package. On the percentage-of-revenue model, it can be waived by agreement.

Can I start with a one-off review of my Shopping campaigns?

Yes. Our one-off audits cover Google Shopping and Performance Max, and we agree the scope and price with you before any work begins.
