How much does a small business website cost in the UK in 2026?

In short
UK small business websites range from £500 to £10,000+. What drives the price, what agencies charge, and why AI lets us charge less.
A professional website for a UK small business typically costs £1,500 to £10,000 for the initial build, according to published 2026 UK pricing guides, while in our experience a bespoke lead generation site from a traditional agency can often run to £10,000 to £20,000. At DLR Media, a one-page brochure website is £1,500 + VAT and a bespoke lead generation website of up to 20 pages is £4,500 + VAT, with copywriting included in both.
That's a wide spread, so it's fair to ask what sits behind it. Most of what you pay a web designer for is time, and how much time a website takes depends on who builds it and how. Here's what UK designers and agencies charge, why our prices are lower, and what moves the price of any website.
What do UK web designers and agencies actually charge?
It depends on who you hire. A freelancer will typically charge £500 to £1,500 for a basic five-page brochure site, according to one 2026 pricing guide, while another puts freelance work at roughly £500 to £4,000 for a five to ten page site. Move up to an agency and a standard site typically costs £2,500 to £10,000, with agency brochure websites quoted at £3,000 to £12,000 and London agencies at £8,000 to £25,000.
Once a site becomes properly custom, the numbers climb again. Custom, enterprise or e-commerce builds are typically priced at £10,000 to £40,000 and up. A bespoke lead generation site, with a page for every service and area plus features that capture and follow up enquiries, usually falls into that custom bracket, and in our experience a traditional agency will often quote £10,000 to £20,000 for one.
Side by side, it looks like this:
- Freelancer: £500 to £4,000 for a 5 to 10 page brochure site.
- Agency, standard site: £2,500 to £10,000.
- Agency, custom build: £10,000 to £40,000 and up.
- DLR Media: £1,500 + VAT for one page, or £4,500 + VAT for up to 20 pages (our published prices).
The cheapest route isn't always the best value, and the most expensive isn't always the best website. What matters is what you get for your money.
How can DLR Media charge less than a traditional agency?
Because we've changed how the work gets done. A traditional agency bills for the hours its people spend researching your market, drafting copy, designing layouts and building pages, and on a bespoke site those hours add up quickly. We use AI throughout research, drafting, design and build, which cuts those hours right down, and our team reviews everything before it reaches you.
We take that review step seriously. We've signed up to the Responsible AI Use Campaign's 10 principles, which cover human oversight, transparency, privacy, security, fairness and accuracy. In practice, our team checks AI-assisted work and stays accountable for what we deliver. AI makes us faster. It doesn't make the decisions.
The upshot is that you get more for your money than the traditional model ever gave you. Every site has a custom design and a hand-coded build, with copy written for your business rather than borrowed from a template. It's SEO and GEO ready from day one, built to be found on Google and understood by AI search tools such as ChatGPT and Gemini. Sites go live in 5 days on average once the brief is signed off, and if you'd rather not pay upfront, there's a monthly option with £0 to pay at the start.
What's the quickest way to get a price?
Our instant website price tool takes about two minutes. Tell it your industry, the features you want, whether you need copy, images or a logo, and your timeline, and it recommends a package with the upfront and monthly price side by side. If you'd like to see what's included in every build first, our web design page sets it all out.
Why does the number of pages change the price?
Page count is the biggest single driver of cost, because every page has to be planned, designed, written and built. Our brochure website is a clean, professional single page that turns visitors into enquiries, ideal for a new business or sole trader who mainly needs to look credible and be easy to contact.
The lead generation website does a bigger job. With up to 20 pages, plus advanced features and automation, it suits a business that offers several services, covers several areas or wants the website to do more of the selling. More pages also give search engines and AI tools more to work with, because each service or town page is another way to be found.
Will I have to write the content myself?
Not with us, but check every quote. Writing is often where website projects stall, because most business owners simply don't have time to produce a dozen pages of sales copy, and some low quotes quietly assume you'll write it yourself.
Copywriting is included in both of our packages, from the headlines to the about page. We can also source professional images and design a logo and simple brand guide, or use your own if you already have them.
Which website features cost extra?
Every site we build comes with mobile-friendly layouts, lead capture forms, analytics set up with Google Analytics and Search Console, SSL and ongoing support. Beyond that, some features are optional, and this is where the scope starts to grow:
- Booking and calendar, so customers can book appointments online at any time.
- AI chat and enquiry bot, to answer questions and qualify leads.
- Quote calculator, so visitors can estimate their own price.
- Online payments, for deposits or full payments.
- Local SEO pages, one for each town or area you cover.
- Email automation, so no lead goes cold.
None of these comes automatically with a package. If you choose two or more of them, six or more features in total, or ask for a logo and brand design, the quote tool will usually point you towards the lead generation website. Not sure what you need yet? Tick that option and we'll recommend what fits your business.
Should I pay upfront or monthly?
Both pay for exactly the same build, so it mostly comes down to cash flow. Upfront is a one-off payment, then hosting each month. Paying monthly spreads it over 12 months at £149 or £499 a month + VAT, with nothing to pay at the start, and after that you only pay for hosting.
The catch is that the monthly route costs more overall: £1,788 + VAT for the brochure site and £5,988 + VAT for the lead generation site, against £1,500 and £4,500 upfront. That's the trade for keeping cash in the bank, which suits a business that's just launching.
What will hosting cost each month?
Hosting keeps your site online, fast and secure, and it's easy to forget when comparing quotes, so always ask. Ours is £19.99 a month for a brochure site and £49.99 a month for a lead generation site, with SSL included.
What if I want the website and the marketing together?
If you want a steady flow of enquiries as well as a website, that's what the DLR Growth Engine is for. It's £1,499 a month + VAT on a 12-month term and includes a free custom website worth £4,500. We then run Google Ads, Meta Ads, SEO and GEO every day to bring in qualified enquiries. Ad spend is billed separately, so you set your own budget, and the website is yours once the term is complete.
We're remote-first and build websites for businesses across the UK and globally. If you're in Glasgow, our page on web design in Glasgow explains how we work with businesses there.
